    Choose your camp

Why this turmoil among the nations ? Psalm 2.1

The world has always been very agitated : tensions, conflicts and power struggles are permanent. Psalm 2, written so long ago, describes the world situation as seen by its author. Always relevant, he urges us today to choose the protection of God.

Let's face it : the authorities of this world are not only hostile to one another, they are in fact rebellious to the authority of God himself (Psalm 2:2-3). In response, God grants his Son the power to dominate.

How can this help those who feel threatened ? Early in the history of the Church, and as civil authorities threatened its existence, believers explicitly cited this psalm as they prayed for God's protection (Acts of the Apostles 4:25). They recognized that the death of Jesus Christ on the cross was not beyond his control. This acceptance of the sovereignty of God was not fatalism : they then asked God to deploy his power, so that the gospel could be spread. And God answered them with an earthquake !

Yes, God is sovereign over the affairs of the world, nothing escapes him. We can choose our camp, avoid the vain rebellion of which the Psalm speaks to us.

Let us recognize the authority of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, before He exercises His judgments (Psalm 2:12).
