The stupidities of Cambrai

You will be restored if you return to the Almighty. Job 22:23

In 1880, a certain Émile Afchain, an apprentice pastry chef with his father in Cambrai, involuntarily failed to make sweets. His very angry mother admonishes him harshly : "You are only good at doing stupid things !"

But he still manages to transform the mixture of its ingredients by scenting it with mint. So much so that his candy was greatly appreciated and the “stupidities of Cambrai” were to meet with unexpected success.

Who can say he's never done anything stupid in his life ? Whether in word or deed, involuntary or deliberate, everyone wants to be able to fix it. This is not always easy or possible, because the blunder often leaves a mark. Émile Afchain succeeded in drawing a positive outcome.

If we act out of ignorance or clumsiness, we will be forgiven more easily. The apostle Paul, previously "blasphemer, persecutor, fiery man," sought to destroy the Church out of ignorance of the grace of God. But God had mercy on him.

We find that God is pleased to make unhappy circumstances work together for the good of those who love him and recognize their slippage. Let us remember how God restored David, the King of Israel, after he recognized his crime and his adultery (2 Samuel 12:13).

Will we always have the courage to confess our thoughtless actions? God can run them for our good.
