At that time Jesus spoke and said : I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them. to children. Matthew 11.25

    A stupid man

At the end of the book of Proverbs of Solomon is a chapter written by Agur. It begins with a startling statement : "I am more stupid than anyone, and I have not the intelligence of a man ; I have not learned wisdom, and I know not the science of the saints" (Proverbs 30. 2, 3).

Agur has a keen sense of the greatness of God, and he declares his complete inability to know him. This is precisely the first step towards true wisdom and intelligence according to God, Solomon tells us : "If you make your ear attentive to wisdom, and if you incline your heart to understanding ;... if you seek money, if you pursue it like treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and you will find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom” (Proverbs 2:2-6).

Agur is unassuming, distrustful of himself, and asks : "Give me neither poverty nor wealth... lest in abundance I deny you... Or in poverty , nor do I steal, nor attack myself in the name of my God” (Proverbs 30. 8, 9). He thus demonstrates that he fears God and does not want to dishonor him. Now, "the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord" (Proverbs 9:10).

Jesus also confirms that God hides these things (things concerning God) from the wise and prudent, and reveals them to children. This does not mean that we must abandon all judgment, but God would like us to trust him completely, like a little child to his parents, because he knows us better than ourselves.
