Be careful, risk of madness !

1 Samuel 13.11 and 13 (Word of Life) – What did you do there... You acted like a fool !

These words were spoken by the prophet Samuel to Saul. We invite you to read the whole story in chapter 13. The prophet Samuel arranges to meet Saul at Gilgal to offer a sacrifice to the Lord. However, when Samuel did not arrive, Saul himself offered the sacrifice to God. When the prophet arrives, this is what he says to Saul : "What did you do there... you acted like a fool".

Indeed, if Saul had been consecrated king of Israel, he was not a priest and was therefore not entitled to offer himself a complete sacrifice to God. This fault caused Saul to lose the crown and of course, the anointing that accompanied this call, God having found in the person of David a man who pleased him to establish him as head of his people in place of Saul.

This story makes you think, don't you think ? Although some may argue that it is in the Old Testament, I think it should lead us to question ourselves. Am I the right person in the right place ? We believe that each of us has received special gifts from God and that the Lord wants us to make these gifts bear fruit, but within the framework that is given to us.

Today, many are rising bringing their “own” sound doctrine and explanation of it, which is of course not the same from person to person. Many claim to be prophets, doctors, pastors... During my conversion, the internet was not very accessible, social networks did not exist, and I did not have to hear one thing and its opposite in ten minutes. I think we need to pray that new people who give themselves to God will root themselves in His Word and catch fire right away so that they don't get caught up in every wind of doctrine.

Anyway, back to our text. There is great danger in claiming a calling that is not ours or even in exceeding our God-given area of authority. We are convinced that some exceed what the Lord has entrusted to them. Studying the Bible does not make us a teacher, prophesying does not make us a prophet, evangelizing does not make us an evangelist... The Lord will be much more severe with the ministries of the Word (James 3.1), so before to take this one, let us ask ourselves the question : "Is this what the Lord asks of me ?".

Moreover, I remind you that it is not good for a servant of God to have quarrels ! (2 Timothy 2.24). “Open” debates, “ping-pong match” discussions are completely useless. God asks us to proclaim, period. The Holy Spirit does the work of persuasion.

In fact, since we are talking about proclaiming the Word, why not proclaim a little more Christ who is the Sound Doctrine par excellence. Let's not wait for God to say to us : "What are you doing here ? You act like a fool”. Let's be the right person in the right place.

    Good reflection.
