The Eternal is a God who knows all, and by him weighs all the actions. 1 Samuel 2.3

The ways of a man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he weighs all his ways... The Lord weighs the spirits... The Lord weighs the hearts. Proverbs 5. 21 ; 16. 2 ; 21. 2

Be careful, you are weighed !

We are at the palace of the king of Babylon, in 539 BC. In the banquet hall, there is consternation. A hand has just written four words on the wall, under the bewildered eyes of King Belshazzar and his guests. Daniel is called, a servant of God filled with divine wisdom, which translates the four words. The third, "teqal", means : "You were weighed on the scales, and you were found light" (Daniel 5:27).

"Found light", here is the divine verdict on this sacrilegious king. And, the following night, Belshazzar is killed...

This king was weighed, not on an ordinary scale, but on the divine scale. Through it, it is the moral value of the human being and of his acts that God evaluates. God "weighs", evaluates our paths and our actions (what is seen), but also our hearts and our minds (the intimacy of our being). He knows why we are following such and such a direction, why we are acting, and also what we like and what we think.

Today, during our lifetime, we are all "weighed". God values ​​every man in relation to his Son, Jesus, the obedient man. A man may think he can do what he pleases, or even devote himself entirely to others. But he did not come to Jesus to confess what he is before God, a sinful man he has no relationship with him. His reason for living is not to honor God ; it is "too light".

But a simple glass of water, given by a Christian for the love of Jesus, has all its value before the judge of all the earth (Matthew 10:42).

After death, we will not be weighed. Jesus said : "He who believes in me will not be judged, but he who does not believe is already judged, because he has not believed in the name of the Only Begotten of God" (John 3:18).
