Burn the book that could save them !

We are in 1874. Pastor Arnold Bovet distributes New Testaments in Lozère. Alas, some people take a dim view of this action and throw the precious books into the fire !

Appalling ! “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing !" must have probably prayed this servant of God... How can we burn the book which brings us, in the Gospels, the true words of Christ, source of eternal life ?

Fortunately, times have changed and several popes have authorized the faithful to read the Bible. This book, listed as a World Heritage Site, the best-selling and most translated in the world, is also the one that has been the most fought over over the centuries! Why ?

One reason is that it is a mirror revealing the sin that taints our lives, and our natural inability to keep the Ten Commandments. (Exodus 20.1-17 and Romans 3.9-19)

However, if he poses a grim diagnosis of our state of spiritual death, he also gives us the divine remedy : the Good News of the coming of the Savior, Christ Jesus. The only man who, after fulfilling all the Law (Matthew 5:17), agreed to give his holy life as a sacrifice for the forgiveness of our faults.

Rather than ignoring this mirror, let us dare to look ourselves in the face, and then entrust ourselves to the One who has accomplished everything !
