    Busy with his death

About eight days after saying these words, Jesus took Peter, John, and James with him, and he went up the mountain to pray. As he prayed, the appearance of his face changed and his garment became dazzling white. And behold, two men were talking with him : it was Moses and Elijah, appearing in glory, they were talking about his coming departure which was about to be fulfilled in Jerusalem. Luke 9:28-31

Jesus appears to his disciples in his glory, surrounded by two men recognized by the apostles to be holy men of God. For the disciples, what encouragement is this closeness in divine glory ! What an encouragement for us today to know that for all eternity we will be with Jesus in his glory, very close to him. We will talk to him intimately with a perfect understanding of his thoughts.

What do Moses and Elijah talk about with Jesus ? Of his death he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. What will we do when we are with Jesus ? We will contemplate him as the glorious Lamb who was slain and we will praise him as the one whose blood was shed on the cross for our redemption. Yes ! We will talk about his atoning death accomplished in Jerusalem. We will not tire of doing it, for the marks of his wounds will remind us of his pains endured on the cross for us and for the glory of God.

While waiting to be caught up in glory to be always with the Lord, we have the privilege of responding to his invitation: we gather around him to remember him in his death. So, from now on, we talk to each other, and with him, about his completed death in Jerusalem. The center of our thoughts is the cross where Jesus, Son of man and Son of God, suffered for us and perfectly glorified his Father.

During our meetings around him, do we occasionally fall asleep spiritually ? Sometimes alas ! Sometimes we come with cold ailments, sometimes we say ready-made formulas. Let us wake up one another to the beneficent action of the Holy Spirit. Busy with Jesus' love for us, our praise will take on a new lease of life for his glory.
