Before the coming of Jesus Christ, God remained invisible, he had not fully revealed himself. The believers of old, such as Abraham, Jacob or David, knew certain characteristics of God : his goodness, his power, his holiness, etc. But the revelation they had of him was partial.

The Gospels reveal to us a person who came from heaven to make God known to men : Jesus Christ, the Son of God, in whom dwells the fullness of the deity (Colossians 2:9).

It is called "the Word", so it expresses what God thinks. He is also "the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father" (John 1.18) : he lives in perfect intimacy with his Father, "so much one with him (John 10.30).

Who could be better placed and more trustworthy to reveal God to us ? He is "the image of the invisible God" (Colossians 1:15). In him God can finally be seen and known. Do you read in the Gospels the account of the life of Jesus. God reveals himself in this man who came down from heaven (John 3:13). You will discover God himself and his compassions towards suffering humanity.

See how Jesus acted when he encountered suffering, sickness, death. With what tenderness he welcomed the little children, with what sympathy he consoled the bereaved !

Follow him in the gospels and listen to him (Luke 9. 35).

You will find a soothing answer to your questions there. There you will find the Savior God has given us.
