    Let's seize the opportunity

Be sure to walk carefully, not as devoid wisdom, but as wise, seizing the opportunity, because the days are bad. Ephesians 5:15,16

Each year has 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8,760 hours : a wealth of time granted by God ! How are we going to use it to please the Lord ? By seizing every opportunity.

“Seizing the opportunity” means acting like in the market : not missing the opportunity to make a good deal that may not come again. The supermarket of this world offers an immense quantity of means of spending our time, even of “killing” it according to the expression sometimes used. There is something for everyone, from the most degrading to the most cultural !

But a bad atmosphere, that of the last days, reigns in this big market ; let's go through it, carefully wisely so as not to be seduced by anything and everything.

Let us remember that the Christian has a mission to fulfill : that of being a witness of Jesus Christ, announcing the good news of salvation to unbelievers. He takes every opportunity offered to him to speak of his Savior and to show his joy in belonging to him.

What makes us discern opportunities, those good works that God has prepared in advance for us to walk in (Ephesians 2:10) ? Our love for our Lord, which translates into love for others, especially at the thought of the eternal perdition that awaits them.

Seizing the opportunity also means taking advantage of our meetings with brothers and sisters in Christ to talk to us about what concerns our faith, to encourage us to live with the Lord, to pray together. Don't we often spend too much time talking about useless things or about rain or shine ?

Let us also seize the opportunity in our family circle, not to overwhelm our children with Bible verses, but to place every circumstance in the stream of God's thoughts.

Christians, let us grow in the spirit of grace for Christ. Let us not remain passive, but walk carefully. Let us open our eyes to discern and seize every opportunity to serve Christ, both in a hostile world and within the family of faith.
