Let's support each other !

“Support each other, and if one of you has reason to complain about another, forgive each other. Just as Christ forgave you, so forgive yourselves.” Colossians 3.13

Since we are all different human beings, with a baggage of bad habits and particular tastes, it is sometimes difficult to accept in others these behaviors that we find irritating. In the first years of a couple these irreconcilable differences do not come to the surface because love is young and still blind ! But over time each begins to notice what he or she doesn't like about the other and complain openly. Then each hopes or dreams of changing the habits of the other. Various methods are then used : the charm offensive or, on the contrary, acidic, sarcastic, even nasty remarks. But nothing helps. Only God can change someone's heart. All our efforts prove useless to the point that even among Christians, the final outcome is divorce, for “incompatibility of temper”. Do you know the story of this 85-year-old man who had just filed for divorce after 60 years of living together. The judge asks her : “After 60 years together, couldn’t you stand a few more years ?” To which the old gentleman replies : “No, that's enough ! I can't stand another day !” How can we support each other ?

1- First, accept that we cannot change the other and respect our differences.

2- Let's show restraint, self-control. Let's talk less and pray more. How many couples used to pray together every day ?

3- Let's focus on what we appreciate together. Avoid venturing into dangerous terrain ! Let us rather cultivate our common faith.

4- Instead of complaining to each other, let's look for things to be grateful for and ways to congratulate each other.

5- Let us make the commitment to love one another. Love is not an emotion, but a decision to be made and honored. Let's not forget it !
