    "People of little faith" (2)

“I raise my eyes to the mountains : where will my help come from ? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121. 1-2.

Is it possible to pass from the state of “people of little faith” to that of “people of great faith” ? Maybe, but it doesn't look like conversion, when our life suddenly changes direction. Growing in faith is a lifelong progression, which depends on great lucidity on the one hand and the desire to “see” the invisible, like Moses who saw the arrival of the Messiah long before this event. Lucidity to realize the dangers and risks. Peter had seen the waves whipped by the strong wind, before stepping over the rail to meet Jesus, knowing that Jesus was able to rescue him. He saw, far in the future, the image of a God who controlled the raging elements and could calm them. The other disciples saw only the raging waves, while Peter distinguished, beyond the present circumstances, a triumphant and victorious Jesus. What a lesson for us today ! The more we look at the waves, the more our faith diminishes ; the more we look to Jesus, the more our faith grows. But a quick look at the waves is enough to make Pierre dive! Notice that Jesus "immediately" grabbed His disciple's arm and "immediately" the wind ceased. Our Savior knows how to assess our faith and loves to reach out to us at the right time. He will not reject people of little faith, “He will not break the broken reed and quench the still smoldering wick” (Isaiah 42:3). His Word for today : let us look more to Jesus, all of us who are “people of little faith” !
