Jesus got up and, seeing no one but the woman, said to her : Woman, where are your accusers ? No one condemned you ? She said : No one, Lord. Jesus said to him : Neither do I condemn you ; go, henceforth sin no more. John 8. 10, 11

    Questions from Jesus : No one condemned you ? (5) - Proposed reading : John 8. 1-11

It is morning, Jesus is seated in the courtyard of the temple and instructs the people. A group of monks comes to interrupt him to trap him in his teaching. They bring him a woman caught in the act of adultery. Will Jesus uphold his death sentence under the law of Moses ? They ask him : "So you, what are you saying ?" in order to be able to accuse him.

Jesus does not answer, but bends down and, silently, writes on the ground. They questioned him again insistently, so he got up and said to them : "Whoever among you is without sin, let him cast a stone against her first." Then he bends down and writes again. One after another, those who had come to condemn the woman leave. Only Jesus remains, and this woman in front of him.

A whole new look has just landed on her, with a glimmer of hope. Jesus speaks to him and asks : "No one condemned you ?" "Nobody, Lord," said the appeased woman. “Neither do I condemn you,” said Jesus. She can go free from condemnation, with the strength of Jesus' forgiveness.

The real motor of his deliverance, as for us at every hour of life, will be the memory of the love of the Lord Jesus. "Go, henceforth sin no more." God's wonderful grace does not let our sin stop us. Jesus bore all the pain on the cross.

If you still feel distant from him, know that he loves you. Don't Condemn Yourselves : "I don't condemn you. Go...sin no more."
