This world will disappear !

“He that sat on the throne said : Behold, I am making all things new.” Revelation 21. 5

In every election politicians go above and beyond with promises they will be unable to keep, but which give the impression that they believe they can improve the world we live in. Most of their speeches end with the promise of a better future for our children and grandchildren. Better health, better education, greater security for all, greater equality for all... who does not dream of a bright future ? Of course, once elected, they both fail miserably. But the One who can truly change the world has not promised to improve it ! He promised to get rid of the present world and all its ills, before replacing it with a new world. John in his vision exclaims : “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away... Here is the tabernacle of God among men ! He will dwell with them... He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, death will be no more, and there will be no mourning, no cry, no pain, for what was before was gone” (Revelation 21, 1, 3-4). The only one who can keep such a promise is the One who created the world in the first instance, the One who is “Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end” (v. 6). He is the only one who can solve, once and for all, the evil which is raging here below and which is the source of all human problems. For He is the only one who is holy and righteous. One last detail: some of us may think that if this world we live in cannot be improved, what good is the effort to change anything. But divine compassion and love demands that we do good around us “tirelessly”, knowing that true hope lies in the hands of God alone.
