When the breath is no longer !

Genesis 4:10 – And God said : “What have you done ? The voice of your brother's blood cries from the earth to me".

Have you ever thought about this situation ? God had told Adam that the day he ate from the “forbidden” tree, he would die. Now, the first human being who lives this “condemnation” in his flesh is a just man : Abel ! Surprising no ? not to say unfair.

The Lord has ways of doing things that may surprise us. But if we think a little further, the example of what death is : you were there and then you are no longer there, by using a just man, was this not a way for God to bring human beings to repentance ? You will say to me : “Nice for Abel” ! Abel was coming into glory and I am convinced that he had learned much more about God than just the fact that He was satisfied with animal sacrifices. Abel must probably, in his desire to please God, have accepted that God does what pleases Him with his life.

I come to the following reflection : what is wrong with Christians when some of them go through painful times ? If, and this is the union minimum, we say that we live for the Lord and for His glory alone, what is the problem when it becomes uncomfortable for us ? Let's be consistent with ourselves, unless our Gospel is only made of : "Lord, You bless me" !

I believe, and I say this without condemnation, that many of us have not learned renunciation ! Unlike our friend Abel, our ego is very much alive. We sing loudly this beautiful song by Luc Dumont : "I give you my life", but at the end of the service we say by our actions : "But I'm taking it back it's over" !

To surrender to God is to accept “unconditionally” that He does with us what He wants ; without explanation, without asking permission, just because we have become His property. Let us be reassured, the Father loves us, but we...
