The Lord will bring to light that which is hidden in darkness, and which will manifest the purposes of the hearts. Then each one will receive from God the praise which is due to him. 1 Corinthians 4.5

    You did well

    - King David wanted to build a magnificent temple for his God. But it is to his son Solomon, and not to him, that God entrusts the care of carrying out this project. However, David's intention, inspired by his love for God, has more with the Lord, who says to him : "You have done well to have had this intention" (1 Kings 8:18)

    - Much later, some women attended the burial of Jesus. But it is the Sabbath and, according to the law, they must not move. At the end of the Sabbath, they go to the tomb to embalm the body of Jesus. But the tomb is empty, Jesus is risen. It is too late... Has the approach of these women attached to the Lord been useless for all that ? No ! They were thus able to announce his resurrection to the disciples. Their thoughtful project was useful, even if it did not come to fruition.

    - In Christian life, it happens that certain projects which are close to our heart seem to be failures : a long trip to visit a hospitalized friend who is not in his room, an invitation canceled at the last minute...

We are sometimes confused. Have we wasted our time and energy for nothing ? We may have been wrong, but the motive which made us act has not escaped the One who searches hearts and thoughts. An apparently unnecessary approach for those who appreciate, not the visible result, but the interior patterns. "The Eternel does not look like a man ; a man looks at what strikes the eyes, but the Eternal looks at the heart" (1 Samuel 16. 7).
