    An effective word !

The word of God is not bound. 2 Timothy 2.9

I do not intend to offer a new translation of the Bible but, in these particular times (I write during a time of confinement), I thought that I could say this verse from the second Letter of Paul differently to Timothy without doing violence to the text : "The word of God is not confined." The apostle Paul claims to be bound like a malefactor, but he rejoices that the Word of God is not bound.

For a time you and I were confined, unable to meet as we used to ; but the Word of God has circulated in homes through the techniques made available to us : television, computer, tablet and others. We were able to pray, sing, praise God and receive instruction. Fraternal communion was exercised between all of us who were present by image, by videoconference. The apostle did not benefit from those technical advances which are very useful to us today. But he had this unshakable conviction : he could be “confined”, but not the Word of God ! Christians, too, may be confined but, glory to God ! his Word is not, and that is the main thing. Even in these circumstances, let this Word not return to God without having accomplished its purposes. (Isaiah 55.11)

Proposed reading : Letter to the Philippians, chapter 1, verses 12 to 14.

1.12 I want you to know, brothers, that what happened to me has rather contributed to the progress of the Gospel.

1.13 Indeed, in all the courtroom and everywhere else, no one is unaware that it is for Christ that I am in the links,

1.14 and most of the brethren in the Lord, encouraged by my bonds, have more confidence to speak the word without fear.
