I do one thing : forgetting what is behind and moving towards what is ahead, I run towards the goal to win the prize of God's heavenly calling in Jesus Christ. Philippians 3:13,14

    A single thing

    - Jesus has just healed a blind man (John 9). To those who question him about the one who healed him, he does not know what to answer. "One thing I know is that I was blind, and now I see" (v. 25). Man is spiritually blind when he ignores the love of God ; but when the light illuminates his heart, then he possesses an unshakeable certainty.

    - In Luke 10.38-42, we find two sisters : Marthe is very active in the service of Jesus, Mary is seated at his feet and listens to him speak. When Martha comes to complain about her sister to Jesus, he kindly replies that Mary chose the only essential thing. This makes us think, because we too, in our Christian life, sometimes want to react before listening.

    - The apostle Paul would have had many titles to assert. But "for the sake of Christ" he esteemed them as "garbage" (Philippians 3: 8). He writes that he does one thing, only one : he runs straight to the sky. Let us imitate him, do not be afraid to abandon what binds us to the earth, to concentrate on what is "above" (Colossians 3.1-4).

    - King David, in Psalm 27.4, writes : "I ask the Lord for one thing that I long for : I would like to dwell all my life in the house of the Lord". A life with God is what matters to the believer. To have the certainty of being free from guilt, to listen to the Word of the Lord, to run straight to the heavenly goal and to remain in the presence of God, what a wonderful program ! Is this our priority ?
